The effect of ethical leadership style on organizational citizenship behavior and social responsibility of teachers (Study case: elementary school teachers in Rasht)

Abstract

Background and Aim: In the current era, playing the role of organizational citizenship behavior and social responsibility of teachers in schools improves school effectiveness and educational methods. However, several factors, such as ethical leadership style, affect the requirements of going beyond the official role and fulfilling the commitment to social responsibility of teachers. In this regard, the aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of ethical leadership style on organizational citizenship behavior and social responsibility of teachers (case study: elementary school teachers of Rasht city).

Methods: In terms of the nature of the data, the current research is a quantitative research, and in terms of data collection, it is a cross-sectional descriptive-survey research, and in terms of its purpose, it is an applied research. The statistical population of this research is 356 primary school teachers in the two districts of Rasht city, and the statistical sample size is 185 people based on the Cochran formula estimate, as a non-probability sampling method, specifically, available sampling. Also, the data collection tool is a 35-item questionnaire consisting of ethical leadership style questionnaires from Brown et al. (2005) with two dimensions of ethical manager and ethical person with 12 items, and organizational citizenship behavior questionnaire from Lee and Allen (2002) with dimensions of employee-oriented behaviors. and organizational behaviors with 8 items, and employee social responsibility questionnaire from Carroll (1991) with dimensions of economic, ethical, legal and social (philanthropic) responsibility with 15 items, which is used to analyze the data and information collected from the structural equation modeling method using 22 SPSS and LISREL software were used.

Results: he findings show that the ethical leadership style has a significant effect on teachers' social responsibility with a t coefficient of 9.13, and on teachers' organizational citizenship behavior with a t coefficient of 8.41. Also, ethical leadership style has a positive effect on teachers' social responsibility with a path coefficient of 0.65, and on teachers' organizational citizenship behavior with a path coefficient of 0.85.

Conclusion: The results of the research showed that managers and ethical leaders with high moral values make schools effective and communicate effectively with teachers; Also, managers and ethical leaders create an environment in the school, which leads teachers to organizational citizenship behavior and effective social responsibility.
